Silverton Elopement During Peak Wildflower Season

This was the session I didn't know I needed in my life! Picture this: me, a new mom without much time to explore, adveturing over mountain passes, up forest roads, arriving at  GPS coordinates greeted by Claire and Sam who immediately handed me a 6 pack of Colorado craft beer as a gift.

And then off we went to explore this gorgeous hilltop spot with views of distant mountains in all directions, as the sun set.

Here's the thing, well actually two things. Claire is literally a wildflower researcher, so the whole session was spent not only documenting Claire and Sam's adorable and obvious affection and connection; it was also dappled with attention to the glorious little blooms all around us.

And the other thing I want to say is this. You know when you come to someone's house and they're especially good hosts? Like maybe you don't know them but they make you feel like old friends with their smiles and conversation and gifts of craft beer? That is these two.

When Claire first got in touch, she explained that she and Sam were celebrating two years of milestones: getting married, buying a house, and moving to Colorado for Claire's grad school. To mark this time in their lives, they hoped to book a session at “peak subalpine wildflower time”.

Given Claire's studies it makes complete sense that this time of bloom would have been their choice timeframe for photos taken in the Silverton mountains. I asked Claire to explain her studies, and here's what she says: she's getting an MS in Environmental Sciences at CU Denver. Her research focuses on how changes in snowpack (a response to climate change) affects subalpine plant communities, specifically focusing on flowering species in the southern Rockies that grow around 10,000 feet!

Meeting Claire and Sam was a reminder and affirmation of a huge highlight and benefit of my work: the connections I get to make with amazing humans who I wouldn’t have otherwise come across. And to document them and their love. It’s very dreamy.

Peep Sam's friendship bracelet. Merle is their dog!

For 2024 I hope for more sessions that felt the way this one did. Magical!
