These photos of Mya and Laron were totally spur of the moment. I was out walking with my brother, sister in law and adorable baby niece Isabelle on the Venice Boardwalk in Los Angeles (it was Isabelle's first time seeing the ocean!) when I saw these two skating together. I introduced myself, asked if I could take a few photos and they were down. Their connection and joy really stood out to me.
The sunset that night was outrageous. I love the layers - the orange glow above the ocean, darker on the horizon and fading into yellow, green grass, and then these two on skates, beautiful and in love in the foreground.
I asked Mya if she would mind sharing anything about their relationship, and about skating, and this is what she had to say. (It's the sweetest!)
" We skated a lot in DC and we helped each other learn new things about skating. But we have other hobbies too. He’s an artist and I’m a writer, and we help each other stay creative. Here in LA we like to go to the beach and out on late night drives.
Our relationship isn’t perfect but we know it’s worth it. We push each other to be better and to never give up on each other no matter what. He helped me feel true love. He stuck by me through everything. He’s my rock. True definition of ride or die."
